Teachers' Day Competition

TERMS & CONDITIONS:

Woolworths in partnership with MySchool & the Department of Basic Education ("the DBE").

Detailed Terms and Conditions 2022

By participating in the Woolworths & MySchool Teacher’s Day Competition you accept the following terms and conditions.

The DBE and WOOLWORTHS intends to:

  • Recognise, appreciate, and promote excellence in teaching performance.
  • Honour dedicated creative and effective teachers and schools.
  • Encourage best practice in schools.
  • Afford South Africans the opportunity to publicly say thank you to all outstanding teams or individual teachers in all schools.
  • The DBE will identify, coordinate, and monitor the implementation of the Project and participate in the initiative proposed by WOOLWORTHS.
  • Woolworths will create and manage the teachers’ day platform that will host all the nominated educators for the SHERO Awards. The teachers’ day platform will be live on the following digital portal: https://mtd.woolworths.co.za
  • Woolworths will recognise and acknowledge 45 provincial finalists across 5 categories and in partnership with MySchool and the DBE.
  • There will be a virtual adjudication process with all 45 finalists whereby one winner and one runner up across each category will be selected.

The five categories to be recognised for the awards will include:

**Foundation phase ( Grade R – Grade 3) ** **Intermediate phase (Grade 4 – Grade 6) ** Senior phase ( Grade 7 – Grade 9 ) Further education & training (Grade 10 – Grade 12) **Special needs **

PRIZES WILL BE ALLOCATED AS FOLLOWS:

  • 9 provincial finalists across the 5 categories will be awarded with a Woolworths gift card valued at R1000 each. The total value of the gift cards amounts to R 45 000.
  • 1st runner ups across the 5 categories will be awarded with a Woolworths gift card valued at R5000 each. The total value of the five gift cards amount to R25 000.
  • 5 category winners will be awarded with a cash prize of R10 000 each. The total value of the five cash prizes amount to R50 000.
  • 5 category winners will be awarded with a laptop to the value of R15 000 each. The total value of the five laptops amount to R75 000.
  • The schools of each of the 5 category winners’ will be awarded with a cash prize of R5 000 each. The total value of the five prizes amount to R25 000.
  • Only the learner who nominates the category winner will be awarded with a Woolworths gift card valued at R2500 each. The total value of the five gift cards amount to R12 500.
  • Trophies and certificates will be awarded to the top 5 category winners to the total value of R20 000.
  • The flight costs (return flights) of the 9 provincial finalists across the 5 categories, totalling to 45 finalists, will be covered in order to ensure the attendance of the Woolworths & MySchool Teacher day SHERO Awards in partnership with the DBE.
  • Finalists will be required to fly to Johannesburg on the 4th of October 2022 and overnight in Johannesburg.
  • The event is scheduled to take place on the 5th of October 2022 at 8h30 at the Houghton Hotel.
  • All finalists will depart from Johannesburg on the 5th of October 2022.
  • The accommodation costs for 45 finalists will be covered.
  • The transportation costs for the 45 finalists will be covered.
  • All prizes will be handed over on the day of the event, being the 5th of October 2022

COMPETITION MECHANICS:

  • The Woolworths & MySchool in partnership with the Department of Education “Teachers Day” competition (“the Competition”) is open to all South Africans.
  • The competition includes and is open to all primary and high school learners (“the Participants”) in South Africa.
  • Parents, guardians, care givers, educators, principals, school governing bodies members, HOD’s and school employees may encourage learners to enter and will be permitted to nominate educators on behalf of a learner and/or their child.
  • All Woolworths, MySchool and WFS staff may enter the competition.
  • To enter, participant may upload or type a letter of 200 words nominating a hero teacher for the Competition.
  • All users must be registered via https://mtd.woolworths.co.za
  • All entries must be uploaded on the MTD digital platform: https://mtd.woolworths.co.za
  • Entries must be received by 00:00 on the 21st of September 2022 to be considered.
  • Nomination letters will be showcased on the platform at the discretion of Woolworths.
  • It is not a “given” that all letters submitted will be showcased via the platform.
  • By submitting your nomination letter, you agree to the terms and conditions and permit that your letter may be showcased via on the Woolworths MTD platform at the discretion of Woolworths.
  • The Competition commences on the 23rd of August 2022 and closes on the 21st of September 2022 (“the Competition Period”). Participants stand the chance to win a share of the prizes worth over R400, 000. 00 (four hundred thousand Rands).

To qualify to win the prizes:

  • Tell us about your HERO teacher who has made a difference in your life and/or your child/children/learners’ life.

  • Participants must write an inspirational letter with appropriate reasons and motivation for nominating a particular teacher in the form of a letter, no more than 200 words. A4.

  • Educators, parents, care givers and/or guardians may register via the MTD platform: https://mtd.woolworths.co.za

  • The letter can be submitted/uploaded via the MTD platform https://mtd.woolworths.co.za

  • Each entry must nominate one teacher. Multiple teacher nominations in one entry will not be considered.

  • Multiple entries are not permitted, and the prize is limited to one per winner.

  • Entry letters received will not be sent back to the entrants and/or winners.

  • The winners will be selected by a panel of independent judges. The selection process will also be supervised by an external attorney or auditor.

  • The prizes are not transferable, are non-refundable, non-exchangeable and cannot be redeemed for cash.

  • The judge’s decision will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into in this regard.

  • The winners agree that they may be photographed and/or requested to provide their names for publicity purposes.

  • The winning entries will be announced on www.woolworths.co.za , www.myschool.co.za; DBE channels and the MTD digital platform: https://mtd.woolworths.co.za, Woolworths and MySchool Facebook and Instagram accounts and Woolworths will also send a confirmatory letter to the school principals of the winners.

  • If any winner cannot be successfully contacted following all reasonable attempts to do so, Woolworths reserves the right to disqualify the winner from the Competition and to nominate another winner in his or her stead.

  • This Competition is open to Woolworth’s, MySchool & WFS employees and their family members, including the employees and family members of the Woolworths advertising and competition agencies and distributors. This Competition shall not be open to directors, members, partners, employees, agents, or consultants of Woolworths Making the Difference Digital platform and/or family members.

  • This Competition is not open to any person who has won a Woolworths/MySchool/DBE Teacher’s Day Competition in the preceding 5 (five) years.

  • By participating in this Competition, the winner agrees to indemnify Woolworths and release and hold Woolworths harmless against any and all losses, damages, right, claims and actions of any kind in connection with this Competition or resulting from acceptance and participation in the Competition, including, without limitation, personal injuries, death, and property damage claims based on defamation or invasion of privacy.

  • Woolworths collects and uses personal information about entrants to allow them to enter competitions, comply with audit requirements in terms of the Consumer Protection Act and to determine the winner for the competitions. Woolworths may use the winner’s name and/or images in marketing material but winners will always be informed of this beforehand and will be given an opportunity to refuse to permit any use of their names and/or their images.   • Any reference to Woolworths in these terms and conditions shall be deemed to include reference to Woolworths (Pty) Ltd, Woolworths Financial Services (Pty) Ltd, Virtual Market Place (Pty) Ltd and any of their holding, associated, affiliated companies and subsidiaries.
